Our Ignition offer is our entry-level study package to achieve a Chartered Insurance Institute Award in General Insurance, Financial Planning, Bancassurance, Customer Service in Insurance or Investment Planning.

Ignition is the first step in CII’s learning pathways that help build technical knowledge to help set yourself apart from competitors in this crowded, demanding market.

Our Awards programme helps candidates to build the technical knowledge needed to progress to the next level in their career. Each Award gains the membership designation CII (Award), and candidates who successfully complete three Awards gain the Certificate in Insurance and Financial Services and the membership designation Cert CII.

This Ignition study package includes:

CII ordinary membership

Access to our online support programme and app- RevisionMate

The Awards are assessed by multiple-choice question (MCQ) exams.

* Syllabus year for these Awards runs from 1 May 2019 to 30 April 2020 so your study pack and exam voucher for these units will be valid only until 30 April 2020.

Designed for financial advisers and insurance agents in India, the Award provides a solid grounding in the core financial and life assurance products. It offers guidance on what constitutes professional practice, providing a framework for ethical behaviour.
Award in Investment Planning (AWP)

This single-unit qualification is designed to help experienced advisers outside the UK develop and demonstrate their knowledge of investment products. It also offers guidance on what constitutes sound professional practice, thereby providing a framework for ethical behaviour. This unit can only be awarded to non-UK residents.

Award in General Insurance (W01)

This unit can only be awarded to non-UK residents. This unit prepares you for a career in this international industry. It 'sets the scene' by introducing the concept of risk and how it is managed, as well as the different categories of risk. It also explains how insurance acts as a risk transfer mechanism and introduces the main classes of insurance.

We examine the insurance market structure, its main participants and the various professional roles. It includes the main legal principles that apply to insurance with chapters on contract and agency, good faith, proximate cause, indemnity, contribution and subrogation.

We look at regulation, including the role and functions of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS). We also outline the importance of combating financial crime and the role of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) in developing a strategy to combat money laundering and terrorist financing. The unit then considers the issue of fraud and how insurers manage it.

Finally, we look at the role and importance of ethics in the insurance industry, including the Chartered Insurance Institute's Code of Ethics.

Summary of learning outcomes:

1. Understand the nature and main features of risk and insurance.

2. Know the structure and main features of the insurance market.

3. Understand the main legal principles governing insurance contracts.

4. Understand the main regulatory and legal principles applicable to the transaction of insurance business.

5. Know key aspects of ethics, corporate governance and internal controls.

Award in Customer Service in Insurance (W04)

Designed for customer-facing insurance practitioners working outside the UK, this single-unit qualification is ideal for those starting their careers in the insurance sector, or needing some formal training on customer service issues. It helps develop the skills and knowledge to deliver excellent customer service in the insurance sector. This unit can only be awarded to non-UK residents.
